The Mobile Takeback Forum is the forum for mobile phone handset manufacturers, suppliers, network operators, reverse logistics and other companies associated with GSM or 3G and other product connected by the mobile network operators into the UK market, including companies that recycle or refurbish mobile phones.
From its launch in 2002 the FCS Mobile Takeback Forum (MTF) has taken a prominent position on disposal and recycling issues. With the adoption by the European Parliament of the WEEE and RoHS Directives the groundwork is done. The MTF’s next challenge is to build on this success and work with the UK government on the implementation of the WEEE directive, which came into force on 2 January 2007. MTF aims to achieve safe, sustainable and environmentally sound policies that do not place unnecessary restrictions or burdens on its members.
In 2007 the MTF is also reviewing the implications of and compliance with the Batteries Directive and the REACH Directives, and Eco design of mobile communications equipment
