London 19 November 2009:

The Federation of Communication Services (FCS) has today announced that it has teamed up with Doodson Broking Group to provide members of FITAS (the FCS Installers Training and Accreditation Scheme), with a purpose designed insurance policy.

The installation of communications equipment into vehicles is a highly specialised activity and the new policy has been designed by Doodson, a broker with many years experience in the sector, to meet the particular needs of mobile installers.

In recognition that accredited installers have demonstrated the levels of skill, expertise and customer care set out in the UK code of practice FCS1362, FITAS members will also benefit from discounted rates.

The Doodson policy provides a range of specially designed cover and the standard package includes fully comprehensive motor cover, public liability, sales and defective workmanship liability and business legal protection.

Also available on an optional basis is employer’s liability insurance and a range of cover for goods in transit, stock and tools and money. The policy is fully flexible and also allows installers to purchase individual elements of cover if required.

Jamie Smith of Doodson said, “We are aware that mobile installers need quality insurance cover but we also recognise that not all businesses are the same, that’s why the policy has been designed to provide maximum flexibility for installers of all sizes and businesses types. We are pleased to offer a discount to FITAS members in recognition of their demonstrable commitment to best practice.”

Commenting on the announcement, Michael Eagle, FCS General Manager said: “It is our intention to develop a package of benefits for installers who are members of the FITAS scheme and this is the first fruits of our work in this area. The FITAS scheme requires an appropriate level of insurance as part of its entry level criteria and this will enable members to comply in a very cost effective way.”
