FCS Whitepaper - Number Routing in an all IP World

Posted on 25/02/2019

FCS has an exciting opportunity to work with Ofcom and the industry to ensure that we have a fair and fit for purpose porting and number management system as we move away from TDM systems.

Please find the discussion paper produced by the FCS here which deals with some of the questions and issues that arise in the number porting arena as we move to an all IP world.

Our paper tackles the range of issues around porting, number management and interconnect and looks at how these might be managed: all these issues are on Ofcom’s radar for review and development this year, so getting our thoughts in early will put us in a strong position. We are keen you hear your views on the paper, including any areas that you think should be developed further, for example.

I am pleased to report that we have secured a meeting with Paul Overbury from Ofcom who is leading the project to examine the feasibility of using Blockchain for number management and portability. He will present an overview of Blockchain and explain how Ofcom perceive it can be used to meet Industry requirements. Interested members are invited to attend (numbers are limited, so first come first served):

Tuesday 5 March 10:00-12:00 in Croydon

Please reply to me if you would like to attend and an invite with full info will be sent.

We look forward to receiving your thoughts and comments on the paper.
